CENDARI - Collaborative EuropeaN Digital ARchive Infrastructure
A pipeline for historical research
CENDARI is a 4-year project funded by the European Commission 7th Framework Programme for Research in following case study areas: Medieval Culture and First World War.
CENDARI will provide and facilitate access to existing archives and resources in Europe for the study of medieval and modern European history through the development of an "enquiry environment". This environment will increase access to records of historic importance across the European research area, creating a powerful new platform for accessing and investigating historical data in a transnational fashion overcoming the national and institutional data silos that now exist. CENDARI will enable the formation of new research questions, through tools for aggregation, interrogation and visualization of historical sources, source descriptions and other data.
The MPDL experiences in conceptualization and development of research infrastructures and tools as well as its strong involvement in DARIAH Project will be beneficial for the CENDARI developments.
The CENDARI Project outcomes and results, especially in the area of the data integration and semantic services as well as knowledge organization framework will further strengthen the MPDL orientation towards development of tools that support the e-workbench scenarios, especially in the area of automated data acquisition, entity recognition, data mashups and metadata enrichment.

Citation Databases
What's your Impact?
We provide the most comprehensive databases for science assessment and evaluation.
Essential Science Indicators - Based on Web of Science data, Essential Science Indicators is a compilation of essential science performance statistics and science trends. The chief indicators of output, or productivity, are journal article publication counts. For influence and impact measures, Essential Science Indicators employs both total citation counts and cites per paper scores.
Journal Citation Reports - Compiler of Impact Factor information. JCR delivers quantifiable statistical information based on citation data from Web of Science in order to evaluate scientific journals.
Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) - Multidisciplinary Citation Index comprising the leading journal and proceedings literature from 1900 until present. A feature of the WoS is that from any bibliographic record in the database links are available to its cited references, to related articles and to citing articles.
SCOPUS - A large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. It features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. Scopus delivers a comprehensive overview of the world's research output in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and arts & humanities.

CoNE - MPG Reference Data Server
Stay clean, stay with CoNE
The MPG CoNE (Control of Named Entities) platform hosts and provides multiple sets of controlled vocabularies used to ensure data quality and data consistency in different MPG software solutions, e.g. in MPG.PuRe, the MPG Publication Repository. It enables easy data entry, differentiation of ambiguous data representations and therefore also clean search results. In addition to continuously extended reference data (like MPG affiliated authors and scientific journals), the service also provides authority records from different standardization organizations (ISO-639 languages, IANA mime types) and classification vocabularies (DDC Dewey Decimal Classification). CoNE can be queried via a machine interface and delivers data in multiple, widely accepted formats, like RDF/XML, JSON and HTML. A comfortable web interface enables straightforward creation, import, edit and search of data. The service is easily extensible and configurable for new vocabulary sets. This allows e.g. the inclusion of individual subject classifications for Max Planck institutes.

Digital Libraries Connected (DLC)
Managing, Editing and Publishing digital collections
Digital Libraries Connected (DLC) is a publication platform for digitized historic works of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The current holdings date back up to the 16th century. DLC is a joint system of four Max Planck institute libraries and open for cooperating institutions.
Beyond serving as a portal, DLC offers web-based tools to support the publishing and editing of digitized copies on the internet. Scans, metadata, transcriptions and structure interpretations in TEI format can be easily uploaded and published. If no TEI is available, the integrated online editor allows the straightforward creation of simple content structures, thereby making it possible to find and navigate the digitized works. All copies in DLC can be referenced using persistent URLs. They can also be exported in standard formats. Integrated image tools enable detailed viewing of the ancient works. The integration of full texts allows searching also older scanned works which have been enriched with adding full texts. As all collections are stored in the same infrastructure, it is possible to search across different collections and institutions.
DLC is maintained and operated by MPDL.

ESAC
Efficiency and Standards for Article Charges
ESAC (Efficiency and Standards for Article Charges) is an initiative pursuing the development of agreed service standards around Gold Open Access charges. This includes:
• help shaping the principles and conditions of the APC (article processing charges) based business model
• gain more evidence on institutional APC workflows and their respective challenges involved
• partner with publishers in order to work on the improvement of processes such as submission and author identification, invoicing and reporting
• start the discussion on efficient workflows involving all parties such as funders, libraries, authors, standardization initiatives, and publishers
• become a reference point and network in order to communicate good practices, proven workflows and guidelines on this subject
As of November 2015, ESAC moved into the DFG funded project INTACT, an open access infrastructure project that brings together three already existing initiatives which will now collaborate under one roof. Besides ESAC, this is the Open APC platform at Bielefeld University Library and the working group Open Access Analytics at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Science (I2SoS) at Bielefeld University. INTACT aims at an improvement of the infrastructure which is needed to ensure a transparent and efficient APC market.
