Internal Workshop Research Data Management

March 29-30, 2023 | Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology| hybrid

internalworkshop

The increasing amount and complexity of scientific data creates challenges in organizing, documenting, and keeping data available for reviewing research results and for new analyses leading to new insights. This becomes even more important, especially with the new Max Planck rules of practice for "good scientific practice" and the rules for data management. Systematic management of research data is therefore becoming increasingly important.

There are solutions for the various challenges of Research Data Management: Collecting, documenting, storing, analyzing, archiving and publishing. In this workshop, organized in cooperation with the MPI for Molecular Plant Physiology, MPI of Colloids and Interfacesand the und dem MPI Gravitational Physics (AEI), our MPDL experts will give an overview of the topic, different approaches and different data services. The participation is free of charge and targeted to all colleagues, with a special focus on scientists.

MPG Labfolder User Workshop 2023

May 11, 2023 I 12:00 am - 08:30 pm CEST | Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics

May 12, 2023 I 9:30 am - 02:00 pm CEST | Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics

Labfolderworkshop

Many different electronic laboratory notebooks are used within the Max Planck Society. An ELN workshop in 2021 revealed the wide range of solutions in operation. In addition to ELNs with a focus on particular subject areas, there are also ELN systems with a more general approach. One of these is the proprietary software Labfolder.

The Max Planck Society has had a central Labfolder license since the year 2016. Currently, this ELN is actively used by over a thousand MPG colleagues. Labfolder is becoming more and more popular within the Max Planck Society, and at the same time, the users are spread across many different institutions and locations. Therefore, we are organizing a workshop to network the key users of Labfolder within the Max Planck Society. The event is intended as a place to share and learn about people using Labfolder in their daily routines, offering you many opportunities to exchange, expand your knowledge and learn.

Hybrid Workshop: Future Opportunities for Software in Research

May 12-13, 2022 I Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology I Plön

May 12-13, 2022 I Virtual

Futuresoftware

Software literacy has become a key competence for scientists across all disciplines. Scientists use software every day, and software development is becoming an increasingly important component of scientific productivity. However, the software needed for certain research projects can get highly complex and take up resources otherwise needed for core research. In the demanded professionalization of software development in research, specialized Research Software Engineers have emerged in recent years. With their help, researchers tackle the challenges in the areas of software and data, such as reproducibility, correctness, user-friendliness, performance, or maintenance.

We would like to cordially invite all interested scientists, research software engineers, IT and computing specialists, and individuals involved in creating, using, or otherwise dealing with research software in the Max Planck Society. We also welcome participants from other research institutions.

The workshop will be held in hybrid form, so you will be able to connect remotely or come to the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön.

You can find more info about the event here.

RDMO MPG

The service “RDMO for MPG” supports the organization of data management and the writing of data management plans for various funding organizations. Via this platform, DMPs can be written both more quickly and with other scientists involved in the project. At the same time, the plans can be updated throughout the various project phases and possibly forwarded to funding organizations.

To facilitate the introduction of this new service, the RDM Support of the MPDL offers virtual tutorials via Zoom in January and February 2022. Join us!

Workshop: Digital Publications in the Humanities

November 2, 2021 I 09:00 am - 01:00 pm | Virtual Meeting

humanisties 02

Digital means and open-access policies are changing the landscape of scientific publishing in the humanities and social sciences, too. The workshop wants to explore both major challenges and concrete solutions in a highly dynamic interdisciplinary field of scientific practice. It aims at sharing past experiences and visions for future developments. Speakers and participants (especially from the GSHS) from different sectors such as digital humanities, publication management, research data management, libraries, public relations are invited to share their knowledge. At the same time, we will discuss perspectives for further development and possibilities for cooperation within the MPG.

The workshop will focus on exchange. So we would like to ask you what issues in digital publishing are currently on your mind? And what would you or your colleagues like to talk about and share? Such urgent topics of conversation would help us to organize the appropriate talks.

You can find more info on the FDM Workshop website.

The registration for the workshop is now available.

Virtual Workshop: "Human Research Data in Practice"

April 20, 2021 I 09:00 am - 12:00 pm | Virtual Meeting

In addition to the annual FDM Workshop, the MPDL will host a digital workshop on Human Research Data in Practice.
The workshop aims to address MPG colleagues on all fronts of data collection, analysis, and evaluation in human sciences. We would like to exchange views on the existing problems and the possible solutions that may already have been found. These are problems in everyday practice, IT solutions, or dealing with research data that are generated on, with, or by people.

The program will be continuously updated on the FDM Workshop website.
The registration for the workshop is now available.

4. FDM-Workshop „Kompetenz Forschungsdatenmanagement in der MPG“

5. und 6. Mai 2021 I online

RDM Service Image MPDL Homepage Banner 2020 12 04

FDM-Workshop 2019

23. - 24. September 2019 I Harnack Haus I Berlin
