Hybrid Workshop: Future Opportunities for Software in Research
May 12-13, 2022 I Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology I Plön
May 12-13, 2022 I Virtual
Software literacy has become a key competence for scientists across all disciplines. Scientists use software every day, and software development is becoming an increasingly important component of scientific productivity. However, the software needed for certain research projects can get highly complex and take up resources otherwise needed for core research. In the demanded professionalization of software development in research, specialized Research Software Engineers have emerged in recent years. With their help, researchers tackle the challenges in the areas of software and data, such as reproducibility, correctness, user-friendliness, performance, or maintenance.
We would like to cordially invite all interested scientists, research software engineers, IT and computing specialists, and individuals involved in creating, using, or otherwise dealing with research software in the Max Planck Society. We also welcome participants from other research institutions.
The workshop will be held in hybrid form, so you will be able to connect remotely or come to the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön.
You can find more info about the event here.

Workshop: Digital Publications in the Humanities
November 2, 2021 I 09:00 am - 01:00 pm | Virtual Meeting
Digital means and open-access policies are changing the landscape of scientific publishing in the humanities and social sciences, too. The workshop wants to explore both major challenges and concrete solutions in a highly dynamic interdisciplinary field of scientific practice. It aims at sharing past experiences and visions for future developments. Speakers and participants (especially from the GSHS) from different sectors such as digital humanities, publication management, research data management, libraries, public relations are invited to share their knowledge. At the same time, we will discuss perspectives for further development and possibilities for cooperation within the MPG.
The workshop will focus on exchange. So we would like to ask you what issues in digital publishing are currently on your mind? And what would you or your colleagues like to talk about and share? Such urgent topics of conversation would help us to organize the appropriate talks.
You can find more info on the FDM Workshop website.
The registration for the workshop is now available.

Open Science Days 2021
October 19, 2021 I 01:15 pm - 04:45 pm | Virtual Meeting
October 20, 2021 I 09:30 am - 02:00 pm | Virtual Meeting
The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) cordially invites you to participate in the Open Science Days 2021. The conference will take place as a virtual zoom meeting and is going to extend over two half days.
When looking at the different areas of Open Science in the past years, we were often confronted with the question of where and how the growing significance of Open Science does affect the reality of a daily research routine within the various disciplines. Or: how it should be affected? This is the key question we would like to shed light on during the conference. A number of challenges for academic everyday life are reflected by the principles of Good Scientific Practice. Major changes within the complex system of research routine and publication workflows are caused, not least by elements of Open Science turning into reality. This applies in particular to the fields of Open Access, Open Research Data, and Open Research Software, which have been at the center of attention for quite some time now.
You can find more info on the Open Science Days website.
You can look up the official program for the Open Science Days here.
The registration for the conference is open for everybody and is now available.

4. FDM-Workshop „Kompetenz Forschungsdatenmanagement in der MPG“
5. und 6. Mai 2021 I online
